Review of My Amityville Horror (2013) by Jay B — 04 Oct 2013
I'm one of those answer seekers willing to soak up documentary after documentary in the hopes of learning something new. Countless times have I been disappointed by the same old retelling of George Lutz's accounts of what happened in the Amityville house.
.. we've heard that shit. We know his beliefs on the matter! FINALLY... another perspective on what went down all those years ago! This time around we get to know one of the children who lived the terror.
Where this effort succeeds is its refusal to take sides. Sure, we hang out with Daniel for all 90 mins, but not once do these filmmakers force you to believe him. They may let you... but they don't force you.
If you want a fascinating account of ONE man's recollection of events, you will dig it. If you want another washed out, speculation filled ghost hunt... keep shopping. This film makes no attempt to mask our star's gruff, hardened outlook.
.. and it's refreshing as fuck.
