Review of Murphy's War (1971) by Rodney G — 07 Dec 2009
This is exactly the type of film I love. obsessed men, driven by war, making things, being mechanical, being diabolical. no back story. a remote setting. landscape, sky. thrilling aerial photography. it's a captain ahab story and presupposes many of the film moments in 'jaws' four years later.
o'toole was never more placidly manic, hellbent will aflame in his famous blue eyes. the film is slowly paced, but deliberately constructed in a sure-handed way I wish more modern action films would emulate.
great stuff.
