Review of Much Ado About Nothing (2013) by Justin J — 09 Jul 2013
Watching Amy Acker in this movie is such a joy that any flaws the movie has, and there were very few of those, simply vanish with her presence. She reminded me so much of Emma Thompson in her portrayal of Beatrice, but Acker does it with a fresher tongue and with a skip in her step.
As a director Whedon brings his humor and style to Shakespeare but never burdens the storyline with it. it's just such a joy to watch with one exception...
Unfortunately some of Shakespeare's wit is lost in the banter between the cast. Kenneth Branagh would never have put up with losing even the smallest opportunity to expose the genius of Shakespeare's wit, but Whedon lets it go in haste as the words occasionally just roll off the players tongues. It almost seems as if they only had 12 days to shoot. Oh wait, that's right, they did shoot the entire movie in just 12 days.
Fantastic movie, wonderful cast, great date night.
