Review of Mother (2016) by Luke C — 26 Nov 2018
The people who say it doesn't make sense don't have very much imagination. The meaning(s) of the film seem pretty obvious and in your face - the film can be interpreted many ways but to not pick up on at least one of them seems pretty difficult.
The people who say it's pretentious need to take a look in the mirror. Trashing anything that's a little "artsy" or metaphorical just starts to look pretty similar to a pretentious snob to me - a philistine. It's really not all that cryptic or pretentious of a film, at least a couple of the main themes seem really straightforward. Yes it's surreal and metaphorical - maybe you don't care for that, but must every film be the same?
