Review of Melody (1971) by Francisco M — 08 Feb 2009
I saved this up specially for my birthday this year but didn't get to watch it on the day - a shame because it would've made it an infinitely better day. This is another anti-authoritarian gem, like The Strawberry Statement from the previous year, the commercial unavailability of which is either a mystery or just plain suspicious in today's increasingly Orwellian society.
I came to it with the highest hopes due to the title, the bare facts (soundtrack by the Bee Gees, screenplay by Alan Parker), and the poster which boldly declares "The Happiest Film of All Time".
I wasn't disappointed in the least. From the first musical montage to the last, I had happy tears on my face throughout. This took me back to things that probably never even happened to me, lol. Just the sweetest young love story ever put on screen.
Tracy Hyde is freakin' adorable incarnate. To love someone ... love Melody :).
