Review of Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013) by Murali B — 24 Jan 2013
Not your run of the mill movie but something that is almost has a feel of stage play. a lot of symbolism used throughout the movie with Gulabo (rose or pink in colloquial Hindi) the drink and the buffalo symbolizing a socialist bent of mind that gets an industrialist to think more for people and their interest when he is under the influence.
All in all, a Pankaj Kapoor movie, it was a feast to watch his top notch calibre in this movie.
Most of the screenplay is interesting except some drag in second half and the very cliche ending.
Shabana anushka and arya babbar did well but Imraan seemed out of place not only with hariyanavi accent but the whole role.
Watch it if you are sick of standard bollywood recipe of romance and action. watch it for Pankaj Kapoor's brilliant performance. watch it for some interesting symbolism and some very interesting dialogues. Shabana has the best lines when she explains role of a politician; just amazing writing.
