Review of Mary Shelley (2017) by Richard S — 21 Oct 2018
Elle Fanning plays Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin , who eventually becomes known as Mary Shelley. The main focus of the film centres around her relationship with Percey Shelley, a man who is portrayed here as somewhat of a scoundrel. Her relationship leads her to being disowned by her father and mixing with other scoundrel types such as Lord Byron. It's not until the close of the film that we see her write her most famous piece and the struggle to get it published because of her gender, while for sometime the public assuming it is the work of Percey Shelley.
The film was entertaining enough and Elle Fanning was really good in the central role but there was nothing here that would have you returning for further viewings.
