Review of Martin (1978) by Robert L — 04 Jul 2007
The best vampire movie you've never heard of: George Romero made this one between "Dead" entries with an amateur cast and a lot more heart and soul than production dollars. "Martin" is either a genuine vampire, or a very disturbed young man whose cries for help in mid-70s Pittsburgh go unheard.
Before "suburbia is Hell" became an cliche of irony-laden indie cinema, this one dared to suggest that religious subjugation and middle-class repression could create modern monsters. It's a bit creaky, but powerful stuff if you're game.
