Review of Mansfield Park (2007) by Shai L — 09 Apr 2008
Of the three ITV productions of Jane Austen novels, this is the most thorough and well-rounded production. But nothing more than that, even the far more fanciful 1999 adaptation of Mansfield Park was less true to the book in narrative, it stayed true to Austen in spirit, especially with Frances O'Connor's stellar performance as Fanny Price.
In this 2007 adaptation Fanny is portrayed as a girl who is a highly forgettable individual and one have to ask how she manages to attract any sort of attraction from any. In this film they talk about all of Fanny's qualities, but you never see them manifested.
That said, the film manages to stay afloat because it never makes any horrible errors and has a the best over-all cast of all the ITV productions.
