Not Masumura's best, certanily in the light of the brilliant Tanizaki novel. But I love Ayako Wakao. But check out fabulous Seisaku's Wife, gripping Red Angel (both b/w) or the colourwise very experimental Tattoo.
Masumura is a gem to discover.
