Chuck doesn't really play much of a role in this. Him and his nephew have some kind of psychic ability to sense danger. They kid's family get killed so Chuck takes him in and trains him to be a bad ass. Of course the ageing montage had to be the kid standing there doing roundhouse kicks until he became an adult. Classic.
So after a bunch of nonsense the kid goes back for revenge. Of course Chuck turns up again at the end to steal the limelight by drop kicking through a car windscreen to kill a guy.
