Review of Liberty Heights (1999) by Paula K — 15 Nov 2009
Even though this film isn't a masterpiece, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. The way the story, the script, the directing, and the acting blend together so beautifully it's hard to really critique it.
You could ask me specifically why I love this film so much, I probably couldn't give you a straight answer, it was a real, honest film that seemed like it wasn't trying at all. It's something that an average moviegoer and a professional critic would love, with some of the funniest/most awkward moments in cinema that I've seen, and moments of deep conflicting issues on race and religion.
I kept forgetting that I was watching a film made in the 90's, and not the 50's. The language was so accurate and there were many sayings and activities mentioned that you could swear is was made back then.
I recommend this to everyone. Really, go see it now.
