Review of Liberty Heights (1999) by Anastasia H — 14 Aug 2007
I haven't seen this since my younger days, but certainly my favorite Levinson film. What really got me was the story about a family of Jews in 1950s Baltimore trying to fit in various situations. The movie not only deals with anti-semitism but with prejudice in general.
It's moral of standing up for what you feel is right and doing what is necessary regardless of the consequences, really brins the story home. Even for non-Jews, this movie is enjoyable. The scene of the boys with "Jew" painted on their chest as they swim at a segregated pool is just fantastic and one of the long lasting images from the film.
