Review of Legal Eagles (1986) by Edoy G — 06 Jan 2010
This is one of those happy movies from the 80s, a glossy romantic comedy thriller that's perennial in the decade, not only in movies but also in TV shows like "Remington Steele" and "Moonlighting." Redford, Winger, and Hannah make a great tag team together in a story about art theft, arson, revenge, and murder, but they play it with tongue firmly in cheeks.
"Legal Eagles'" biggest achievement is that it somehow manages to juxtapose 80s movies sensibilities with that of screwball comedies of the 40s and 50s. The movie isn't to take seriously, it's breezy fun that doesn't pretend to be a high art in itself. We have Redford here acting silly, Winger loopy, and Hannah both sexy and airy. (Those two actresses were the most wonderful and beautiful of their time.) And Rod Stewart's "Love Touch" adds a properly-placed cheese at the end. Good time.
