Review of Kissed (1996) by Bhumika G — 23 Jun 2009
This is definitely a film that will not be a comfortable viewing for most, but I was honestly surprised by how potent it managed to be. It was a very low budget film with a very small cast, and rather short in length.
And its main source of intrigue for most viewers is its subject manner (amorous and physical relations with the deceased), but the film does not portray the material in an exploitive manner, but instead attempts to explore the rationality behind such behavior.
I always feel a movie is very effective when it manages to have me look at a situation in a way I never thought I would. This film definitely succeeded in doing that to a degree I wouldn't expect.
It is highly disturbing though not in the way you would expect, and it even is touching at some moments, which I certainly was surprised by. If you have the stomach to not judge the film by its central plot, you will end up finding a really fascinating look at a really unnerving subculture.
