Review of Kelly & Cal (2014) by Jon C — 03 Jul 2015
A really, solidly-acted drama character piece.
Juliette Lewis finally shows she can carry a role on her own and be able to show such dramatic heft.
She and Jonny Weston are neighbors and become the best of friends under the most unusual circumstances.
Kelly's a new mom who's trying to get used to the idea of motherhood, her husband is willing to help her but unsure of how so Kelly finds an outlet with a handicapped teen in on her street.
The both of them open up in ways they never imagined and Kelly finds a way to live and feel young again without letting adulthood be overbearing.
It plays out as you would expect it but doesn't turn into a full-on cliché.
A wrapped-up ending would have made it more indie-powerful but it's still has that amount of sensitivity and human drama.
