Review of Keep the Lights On (2012) by Peter F — 24 Sep 2012
A gay romance that's about on par with Blue Valentine in terms of grit. Shot in intentionally grainy video, the film seems to want to look as tarnished as the romance it portrays, complete with graphic scenes of sex and drug use.
Still, it's undeniable that Keep the Lights On comes from a very real place, as director/writer Ira Sachs has pulled much of it from his personal experience, and Thure Lindhardt proves to be the perfect actor for this challenging film.
For my money, it's a better queer drama than Brokeback Mountain.
