Review of Kalifornia (1993) by Sarah H — 28 May 2009
I loved this movie. I've always liked Brad Pitt, but his performance here is absolutely amazing. Every moment he was on screen, I was on edge. It is the kind of acting he hasn't come close to since, with the possible exception of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Even in that film, which I like more, he wasn't as menacing as he is here. The film is beautifully constructed. The direction is stylish in a fairly subtle way, and it doesn't get in the way of the human interactions.
The scenes range from uncomfortable at best to downright scary. It was riveting all the way through.
