I gave this movie the benefit of the doubt simply because it is japanese and it has a relatively eminent director... but I really have to say it is a disappointment of sorts. it's good for a few shocks and well built-up tension, but there wasn't much depth in it.
the ring is provocative, original, and plain scary without being cheap. Kaidan is elegant, smooth, and beautifully performed... but it impressed me as having no distinctive soul.
