Review of Jubilee (1978) by Nikolai E — 18 Apr 2009
In spite of my low rating, I really enjoyed parts of this film. I have it to thank for showing me the greatest, most concise single image of a dystopic future society I've ever seen: A burning baby carriage.
A BURNING BABY CARRIAGE. Every single actor is putting their best effort in, and although it doesn't save the film by any means, it reflects well on them. It's dated, but that means it's a cool time capsule of the cultural apprehension of the late 70's, which was pretty well vindicated by the 80's.
Of course it's a gibbering, plotless mess, but if you've already seen every better film out there, don't hesitate!
