Review of Joe Kidd (1972) by Vincent O — 09 Dec 2008
Slow paced but builds steadily to the dramatic climax of a steam train crashing through a saloon. Transports all of the external trappings (and borrows heavily) from the brilliant italian Western 'The Great Silence'.
The imagery and the fancy weaponry is all copied but lacks the style and excitement of its chief influence. 'Joe Kidd' is widely regarded as Eastwood's weakest western and surprising because at this stage of his career it should have been a highly dynamic adventure.
Obviously compared to far better efforts (that came later) and is really for western or Clint fans only.
