Review of Jimmy's Hall (2014) by Nick R — 30 May 2014
You pretty much know what you'll get with this film, and that is no bad thing. In some ways charming, but not sentimental story of life in Ireland in the Depression. Dramatises the role of the Catholic church and the State in seeking to bring together a country divided following the civil war.
Loach explores some of his usual themes, but not in too heavy handed a way. Worthy but not great.
