Review of In the Loop (2009) by Zachary B — 05 May 2012
One of the few movies that deserves comparisons to "Dr. Strangelove" was seen by too few. Satire is difficult. Political satire adds another degree of difficulty, since people have their own strong opinions on politics.
The smart thing this movie does is act like a third person in the build up to the Iraq War. That third party is technically the British parliament member and all of his accomplices as they try to circumnavigate a Hawkish Washington D.
C. It's political bite is only matched by it's prodigious use of curse words. This film contains the most creative use of curses I've ever heard, which seems oddly in-character with a movie that deals with such a slimey portrayal of war hungry governments.
