Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Logan B — 13 Jan 2008
Great acting by both Poitier and Steiger. Very well written film examined the difficulties of race relations in the south of the 1960's. Steiger well deserved his Oscar for best actor as the lonely, but street smart Chief Gillespie.
The film certainly deserved Best Picture in portraying the issue at hand in a much more plausible manner than say, Crash did nearly four decades later. The soundtrack by Quincy Jones was top-notch as well.
