Review of Icarus (2017) by Matt C — 07 Nov 2018
This is a really excellent sports documentary. It starts down a fairly well trodden avenue with the filmmaker Fogel aiming to compete in a sportive (supposedly the toughest amateur event in the world) and then enlists the help of WADA doctor and Russian doping expert Rodchenkov to help him try PED's and see if he can improve and evade detection.
Then in the second half of the film it takes a complete shift with Rodchenkov wanting to testify about state sponsored doping and cover-ups in Russia and the efforts to bring these to air. The corruption throughout the sport is obscene and will only further strengthen the beliefs of me and many others that nearly every sport is at least 50% full of dopers to some degree.
A really great and enthralling piece of work.
