Review of I Smile Back (2015) by Craig T — 28 Nov 2015
First Sarah Silverman's performance in this film is something of which to marvel, but sadly it ends there.
There is nothing new here. All of the supporting roles seem like planets revolving around Silverman's sun. This film is simply a character study about an addict and how it affects those around her.
The root of Silverman's childhood issues seems to be the basis for all the numbing destruction she can heap on herself: drugs, risky sex, alcoholism resulting in yes, the destruction of her marriage leaving only devastation in its wake, but again that's nothing new. I get it. She's a tortured soul, but this screenplay is so flawed that Silverman's excellent performance rises above anything it has to say..
