Review of Hoop Dreams (1994) by C F — 27 Mar 2009
Probably one of the most important American films of the past twenty years. What started as a small PBS project about two high school basketball stars gradually turned into a documentary epic, spanning years in the lives of the two subjects and their families.
Provides a fascinating in-depth look at the nature of high school sports, college recruitment, and the overall experience of what it is to be young and black in America. Absolutely crucial viewing for anyone even remotely interested in sports, documentary filmmaking, or American culture.
