Review of Hoop Dreams (1994) by Nate C — 06 Jun 2007
It's hard to think of a documentary as being entertaining, but the cultural relevance of this one makes it entertaining. Snubbed by the Academy in regards to the Best Documentary Oscar, the film did receive a nomination for Best Film Editing.
This is a classic of American Film because it encapuslates the inner-city obsession over the dream of making it to the NBA. There's a lot of talent out there; the Biblical phrase, "Many are called, but few are chosen," applies here.
The quality of the work did not escape the notice of film critics; Siskel and Ebert both listed Hoop Dreams as the best movie of 1994.
