Review of Hit Man (1972) by Dave J — 14 Jun 2014
Mike Hodges' classic British Crime film "Get Carter" gets a 1970s blaxploitation treatment. Bernie Casey does a good job stepping into the Michael Caine role of Jack Carter, updated here to Tyrone Tackett.
Casey returns home to Oakland after his brother died in apparent suicide, but he quickly finds out there's more to the story and starting looking for revenge upon those responsible (who happen to be gangsters and pron filmmakers).
Directed by the underrated and underused George Armitage, this version of "Get Carter" is head and shoulders above the Sylvester Stallone remake. Also featuring Pam Grier as a X-Rated film star, Paul Gleason in an uncredited bit part as a cop, and quite a few other familiar character actors, this film is well worth watching for fans of the genre.
