Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Miles S — 09 Nov 2007
An infinitely complex film about the nature of memory and tragedy. Resnais, here at the top of his game, directs with subtlety and beauty, highlighting mere fleeting moments. requires multiple viewings for true appreciation, that is if you can get past its slow pacing and 'incoherent' narrative (the film is definitely not incoherent, and I love its slow pacing).
If this film was to your liking check out Last Year at Marienbad, an even slower more impenetrable work about the nature of memory.
