Review of Hellions (2015) by Geoff J — 20 Aug 2015
In Bruce McDonald's follow up to the much loved Pontypool, a young women is tormented by a group of young trick or treaters that are more than what they seems.
This is an easy premise to build a film off of, but Bruce Mcdonald veers off the path of a conventional film to deliver a nightmare logic driven, symbolism heavy, film. The biggest problem I had with the film is that about half way through, hoping to see where the film would go, it abruptly stops. There are a lot of good things about this movie, it is low on gore, the practical effects look good, the kids are scary, and the actors are giving it there all (while some just trying their best).
Overall it's probably not going to be one of those watch it ever year halloween films. It never really wants to be that, but is more of an art film masquerading as a unconventional slasher/scary kid film.
