Review of Heart (1999) by Private U — 23 Jul 2007
The picture seems to advertise itself as a horror-thriller, but it's more of a psychodrama with only subtle hints of terror underlining the fabric of the film. The film is all about obsession and the pain that obsession can cause within us and upon others as we become so fixated on that one thing we desire, thus ignoring the life around us, destroying it in the process.
The acting is superb from entire cast with scenes often being intense merely because of the emotional impact the actors make. The story itself isn't all that exciting as it deals with the age-old issue of infidelity and betrayal, but it most certainly presents the said story in a very unique and interesting way.
Those expecting thrills will be sorely disappointed as the climax is the only point that delivers those goods, but others wanting to watch a seriously dark film about obsession will be satisfied. One of those films that certainly will create mixed results.
