Review of Hawking (2004) by Sarah M — 10 Feb 2012
I came at this movie from two perspectives: First, as a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, and second, as an astrophysicist and high school teacher. I thought the film had a good combination of "hard science", but wrapped up in understandable terminology and a sweet human story. Benedict's physical work as Hawking is really amazing, and the scene with Penrose at the station was what sealed this for me as a favorite. I felt it was a bit short, and ended a bit abruptly, which is why I docked a star. But overall, as a fan and a physicist, I really enjoyed it and hope to share it with my advanced students.
My biggest gripe is that it isn't available on Region 1 DVD!! Come on, BBC!
