Review of Happy Christmas (2014) by Mike C — 24 Nov 2014
All hail Melanie Lynskey. She is so wonderful in this film full of great female character actors. Everyone feels completely real and three dimensional, and the whole thing works for me. It's really just a story about the relationship between these two women, and about what it means to grow up.
I love how Swanberg delves into the insecurities that women feel on both sides here. The stay at home mom who wants to be more, the partying single who wants a family. Both have insecurities, both see the grass greener on the other side.
And both Kendrick and Lynskey are perfectly cast to carry these conversations.
