Review of Hannah Takes the Stairs (2007) by Bec T — 24 Aug 2007
More mature than Swanberg's LOL but not as successful as his Mumblecore peers. He garners attention simply because he's made more films than they have - but quanaty doesn't equal quality as he's had yet to make a good one.
His characters are a little too thin to support a feature - Greta Gerwig is cute but cute, zanyness can't support a feature length movie. Swanberg has a lot to learn in order to catch up with here Andrew Bujalski, Aaron Katz, and the Duplas Brothers are in terms of their story telling, yet he's the most popular of this new wave of youth filmmaking? I don't get it.
