Review of Handsome Devil (2017) by Tatsuhito K — 25 May 2017
I really liked two-third of "Handsome Devil" and was absolutely charmed by its wit and characters. But then the last 20 minutes Happened and it started to fall apart. It became so cliched and predictable to a point where it almost ruined everything that happened beforehand.
There are some really lovely performances (Andrew Scott being the standout) and feel-good moments. Perhaps one of my issues has to do with the fact that I have no interest in rugby whatsoever, so when the film started to focus on that aspect, I just didn't care.
I wanted to see more things that involved the two main characters and dealing with their sexuality. It is perfectly enjoyable and often delightful to watch. It's fine.
