Review of Gray's Anatomy (1996) by Sarah F — 11 Jun 2006
The last filmed monologue of the late, great Spalding Gray. Aesthetically radical and different from 'Swimming to Cambodia' and 'Monster in a Box', director Steven Soderbergh has eliminated the audience and added an emphasis on sets, allowing Spalding to 'chapterise' his monologue much more clearly.
There are also little interview segments. While 'Swimming...' had an underlying political context and 'Monster...' investigated Hollywood, '...Anatomy' explores the world of medicine in various forms.
While 'Monster...' is still my favourite, this one is still fantastic and re-instates why I am such a fan of this amazing master of monologue. Spalding Gray, I salute you!
