Review of Goodbye Solo (2009) by Jordan T — 14 Jun 2009
The more I think about this film, the more its brilliance becomes apparent. Goodbye Solo tells an unbelievably touching story, but it rises above mere plotting to become nothing less than a masterpiece.
Just like its main character, Goodbye Solo is charming, funny, compassionate, and truthful. Solo's compassion for, and desire to save, the despairing William, connects to something profoundly human: the fear of impending death.
His journey, though it lasts only ten days, is epic and equally profound. This is a beautiful film; intelligent, emotional, simple, and pure (and perfectly shot). It is a story, above all, about the revelation and recognition of the grace and beauty in death.
I recommend this film to anyone with a heart that beats.
