Review of Gloria (2013) by Cole J — 02 Feb 2014
The lead performance is so vital to the film, in the way that Cate Blanchett carried Blue Jasmine, Paulina García's is always filled with repression and peculiar reactions and expressions that we are always provoked to think about the film beyond the surface level.
That being said, I think the film is mostly, but not entirely successful. It's about a middle aged woman having a self revolution and the film suggests the keys or solutions to succeeding in one. From what I took away, it seems that Gloria finds her happiness in independence, which I liked and thought worked, yet it doesn't seem like she overcomes all of her character flaws.
