Review of Girlhood (2014) by Gavin S — 08 May 2015
This is the first movie I've seen that focuses on a group of black girls. It follows one girl in particular, Marieme who has failed in and is failed by the school system. Her path follows from this failure and is about growing up, friends, gangs, first love, family and girlhood.
Lots of warmth and depth in this very human 'slice of life' film. I thoroughly recommend it.
