This movie captures the teenage dilemma the drive to fit in and the drive to be a good person. Many times conflicting and in the ghetto it is more pronounced. Older girls teaching younger girls to be more sexual.
We see the same thing now with the Atlanta based black dance troops TV shows. This movie gave me pause (what are we "teaching" young women to value?).
