Quick Review:
Girl Rising is a few short stories stitched together of women living in the developing world. Some face forced marriage, some slavery, and others vast human rights injustices. Basically the film consists of listening to essays/stories with pictures over them. I found Girl Rising a little too glossy to really get emotionally invested. This film comes off like a very long youtube ad/ promo for women. If you already know this stuff it comes off very heavy handed. However it is a great view into the lives of women in non developed western countries. Watch a movie like this...and you'll see why I despise mumblecore.
