Review of Ghoulies (1985) by Jason D — 21 Jun 2009
Hilarious 80's horror fare about a couple (Jonathan Graves and Lisa Pelikan) moving into a mansion where Graves becomes obsessed with black magic and conjures up toilet gremlins that kill his party guests and such.
Pretty hilarious (both intentionally and unintentionally) movie that is, for the most part, awful, but fun as hell to watch, especially with friends and beer. This is worth a watch particularly for appearances by Jack Nance (Eraserhead, himself) and a young Mariska Hargitay (from Law and Order).
Also, it features silly but amusing effects from then-young up and comers in the special effects world like Howard Berger (the B in KNB Effects), Kenneth Hall (Halfway House), and John Carl Buechler (who is a legend in the effects and directing world of horror).
Dumb, silly, but amusing film to watch. The sequels (well, parts 2 and 3, anyway) are much more fun than this film.
