Review of Georgia (1995) by David A — 26 Nov 2009
Jennifer Jason Leigh gives my all-time favourite female performance as a woman quite unlike any other film character I've seen: Sadie Flood, as written and played, is an audience litmus test who begs no sympathy and reaches a peak of divisiveness in her agonising 8-minute rendition of Van Morrison's "Take Me Back".
Mare Winningham lends excellent support, and John Doe of X contributes some dynamic live music to an exceptional character study that is non-judgmental, often funny, and deeply sad.
