Review of Gantz (2010) by John O — 01 Jul 2014
A whacked out sci-fi actioner about a mysterious black orb that resurrects people from death in order to be reluctant foot soldiers in a battle against an alien invasion that the rest of humanity is unaware of. Whew.
An expert piece of Japanese popcorn cinema, Gantz is a slickly made Men in Black variation that kept me intrigued and entertained throughout. Being that it's the first in a two-part series, the majority of the movie is setup and doesn't leave you with all that much to think about *yet* -- but, this movie did a great job hooking me, so I look foward to the next one. If you've ever wanted to see a WTF film that looks like an ace Hollywood production, this is a sure bet.
