Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by P. P — 06 Jul 2014
A flawless movie which focuses on its subject's humanity and assesses the tragedy on a personal rather than explicitly sociopolitical level. However, the way in which it fleshes out Oscar's character makes it political.
The quality of performances give the senselessness of this young man's death visceral impact. The film may appear to be no frills, but this is clearly a device aimed at adding immediacy to the story.
There is remarkable artistry in this film, and those watching won't soon forget it. Pitch perfect.
