Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Barbara R — 28 Jul 2011
A brilliant work from accomplished director Ron Howard. Ranks up there with Il Divo and The King's Speech for me. I am also reminded of Burn After Reading and The Ghost Writer. The acting in this movie was superb.
Frank Langella was spot-on as Nixon capturing his bluster, his wit and his downfall. Michael Sheen was a perfect Frost, blending the mask of a glib tv host with eyes which expressed so much more - irritation, shock, anger and quick calculation.
The acting of the rest of the cast evened out the ensemble nicely. Holistically, this film brought politics, history and the media together so well with clips from the era and re-enacted interviews. It deserves every one of its nominations, including the one for Best Picture.
