Review of Flower & Garnet (2002) by Bere D — 01 Jul 2007
Genuinely moving, unpretentious Canadian film that seemed to have slipped through the funding agency cracks. The characters are all basically decent and try to do the right thing in tough circumstances.
These are not the typical characters seen in English Canadian films; you can actually relate to them! The film depicts a father's love for his children and the care that the two title siblings show for each other, even when things get rough.
Evocative film with a small town Western setting that shows the quiet desperation that good people feel when they get put into awkward or difficult situations. Behrman has become a TV director as of late, hopefully he will have an equally powerful follow up.
Seek out this hidden Canadian gem. The child actors are phenomenal.
