Review of Floating Weeds (1959) by Jon G — 12 Dec 2007
A simple but beautifully made film. A travelling performance troupe arrives in a seaside town where the lead actor is reunited with a former lover and their son. Betrayed, the actor's current mistress seeks to destroy him by cajoling another young actress to seduce the illegitimate son.
What follows is heartbreaking and compelling storytelling by the one of the true masters of world cinema. A remake of Ozu's earlier silent film.
