Review of Filmistaan (2014) by Jay D — 23 Jun 2014
An unconventional film by Bollywood standards yet it pays homage to Bollywood brilliantly. Lead actor Sharib Hashmi impresses with his flawless performance & crackling dialogues while Innamulhaq is an actor to watch out.
Film basically is a love letter to Indian cinema for which there is tremendous affection not just here but also across the border. Nitin Kakkar's screenplay & direction is terrific in first half but kind of loses momentum in second half.
Though I really loved the way director gradually progresses this movie from a Cinema Centric to political movie touching upon the issue of partition in 1947 & plight of terrorists. Special kudos to Arijit Datta's background score & Subhranshu's camera work.
